Empowering Women Farmers for a Food Secure Nation

As we strive towards empowering women in all areas of decision making we have come to terms with the fact that economic empowerment is key .   Women remain our focal point. In partnership with DIAKONIA under the FLOW project, the capacity of women farmers has been enhanced in food security.
Meet Atii Stella from Otuboi village (about 8kms from Amuria town) Kuju Sub County. She became part of the FLOW Project in July 2012 and has participated in all trainings/meetings that were conducted , these trainings included; on food security, group dynamics, food security awareness meetings, Civic Education meetings, Value addition and exchange visits.
It is not surprising  that Stella is at the level she is today. She quickly grabbed the knowledge and skills  she acquired and  religiously  applied  them to her daily life.
Stella believes that as a woman she has power to create change as long as the resources such as  land and knowledge are accessible.
“I am a changed woman because of the FLOW project and the status I have managed to reach, I won’t accept to lose.” Stella said after taking the Field Officer around her gardens.
Stella  has chosen to diversify the crops she grows because she wants her house hold save the money that they would have rather spent on food items that can be grown at home like onions and tomatoes.
